Mother tongue–based multilingual education and curriculum design

Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) has become a strong teaching method that values learners' language and cultural backgrounds as important resources. This approach is based on the idea that children learn best when teaching starts in a language they understand. MTB-MLE supports cognitive growth, academic success, and social inclusion. This study looks into MTB-MLE, its theoretical foundations, and its importance in modern education systems, especially in multilingual and postcolonial settings. It also discusses principles and models for designing MTB-MLE curricula, focusing on challenges and effective practices. Drawing from global and Indian viewpoints, this paper argues that good curriculum design is key to the success of MTB-MLE and vital for achieving fair and quality education.
